Total Number of People = Udzungwa National Park covers an area of 1,990 km2. The Udzungwa Mountains are part of a broken chain of mountains known as the Eastern Arc Mountains that are close to the coast of east Africa from southern Kenya to southern Tanzania.

The park is not a conventional game-viewing destination but it is a magnet for hikers. A popular activity is the half-day walking safari to Sanje waterfalls which stands at 550 ft (170 m), whose mist sprays into the forest valley, and where one can swim in the waterfall plunge pool. Ornithologists are attracted to the Udzungwa Mountains where more than 400 species of birds are found. Four birds are peculiar to Udzungwa including a forest partridge which was discovered in 1911. There are six primate species recorded in the park, including the iringa red colobus and the sanje mangabey, both of which exist nowhere else in the world.

With a vertical height range of 250–2,576 metres (the peak of Lohomero), the Udzungwa mountains contain a diverse range of habitats including tropical rainforest, mountain forest, miombo woodland, grassland and steppe. The park can be visited throughout the year.
