Uluguru mountains are a mountain range in eastern Tanzania named after the Luguru tribe. The main portion of the Uluguru Mountains is a ridge running roughly north-south and rising to 2,630 metres (8,600 ft) altitude at its highest point. On the main Uluguru range, 50 villages touch the forest boundary and over 151,000 people are found within the mountain area. These mountains are known for being a unique and diverse hydrological importance to the forest vegetation. The Uluguru range is home to more than 100 plants, 2 endemic mammals, 4 endemic reptiles and 6 endemic amphibians. There are 15 species of birds which are under conservation interest. Much of the mountains are covered with forest reserves that contain some of the oldest species of trees. The forest has high a biodiversity and is ranked first in Tanzania among other eastern arc mountain ranges for their highest rates of endemism for both flora and fauna.

Choma Waterfalls 

The waluguru people are indigenous to choma village. The waluguru people are farmers producing vegetables such as cabbages, carrots, lettuce, pumpkins, cassava, yams beetroot and mchicha (green vegetable), they also grow fruits including mangoes, bananas, strawberry, blackberry, jack fruits, sour sop and other products such as corn/maize and beans. The waluguru have a rich culture and come together to celebrate weddings and special occasion.

Morning Side 

This is an old German settlement. The area has beautiful views overlooking the farming land and has views of Morogoro town.

Mbete Village Tour

This is a short hike which takes 3-4hrs. Visit the village and get involved in soil-cake making. Soil cakes are believed to have a lot of minerals like calcium and iron, and are mostly eaten by women who are pregnant, as it is believed it makes the baby strong when born. Visit the nearby river as well.

Kinole Village 

Kinole is home to the chief of the waluguru. The local people produce a range of agricultural products including cardamom, black pepper, cones, grinamon, ginger, jack fruits, banana, beans, mangoes, pineapples and sour soap.

Bondwa Peak 

From the historical neighborhood of Morogoro town known as Morning Side, a 6.3 km walk from the city centre takes you through the nature reserve to Bondwa peak.

Lupanga Peak 

Lupanga is a spectacular but challenging climbing tour through a natural rain forest. The peak is 2150m above sea level, and this makes it the second highest peak of the Uluguru Mountains.
